Euro 2000 in brief

Euro 2000 was considered by many to be the best major tournament of all time. What made the tournament really good was that all the good teams played ever so well.

Euro 2000 consisted of 23 football (soccer) matches which took place during June 2000.

France emerged the winners after winning the World Cup, which was the first achievement in European football history and it gave them the distinction of
being both the current World Cup and European Cup holders. France had kept their momentum to overwhelm Italy, and at last David Trezeguet scored a golden goal.

France's win over Italy was no first though; Four years earlier Germany beat the Czech Republic 2-1, also with a golden goal.

The German win also came thanks to the centre-forward, Oliver Bierhoff sealing the Wembley final in the 95th minute.

Euro 2000 was the first European Championship to be co-hosted. It used the same system as Euro 1996 a 16 team format with four groups of four nations competing.

I have to admit to only watching the games with England in them; little Michael Owen, he's a cracker, and the boy Beckham, bless him, thick as tripe but he can kick a ball.

Two of the top favorites are World Cup champions France who've demonstrated excellent form in their recent games.

Hooliganism...

Euro 2000 is a celebration of European football, not an excuse for a small minority of English fans to cause havoc.
